Over in Japan, I have group of friends who are passionated about field coil drivers. They convert their favorite vintage drivers to field coil magnet circuit. They are the most well known field coil driver gurus in Japan.
You must think why they wants to do that??? Because they can!
and it has huge benefit over permanent magnet drivers.
1. Field coil drivers can have much higher permeability at the same or higher flux density. This is the same reason why we prefer Alnico over Ferrite magnet.
2. By adjusting voltage, speed for woofers and horn drivers can be matched. We always wanted faster woofer (super 515) that matches 288 driver.
